Andreja Klasović won The Croatian Open
Andreja Klasović, 25-years old player from Serbia, has won in the third tournament of Best of The East 2004. 90 players from 7 countries took part in the Croatian Open 9-ball. However, at the top of the Best of the East 2004 classification there are two Poles. Mateusz Śniegocki is the leader with the advantage of 30 points – in Split he was the second, losing in final with Klasović 5:9. Mateusz won Polish Open and was the 17th in Slovakian Open in this year. Previous leader – Michał Turkowski from Poland lost in Croatia in the first cup system round. This is enough to take the second place, but he lost quite a lot to Śniegocki, and he has a few strong competitors just behind himself. The final results will be known in october, after the last tournament, which will be played in Pecs (Hungary) at 9-10.X – a week later than it was planned before. The main reason of this change is the insertion the first time into the official WPA schedule The 8-ball World Championships. As the organizer of the competition, regardless the results of the last tournament we can tell about our success. Till now there are 215 players from 12 countries classificated in the Dynamic Billard Best of The East 2004.
In The Croatian Open 9-ball the potential favourites were the medalist of Europe Championships (Foldes, Babica, Tot, Putnik, Roter) and experienced billiard players from area of old Yugoslavia (Svilar, Klasović, Susnjara, Sudić, Mladenović). The start of Michał Turkowski – the leader of the ranking and Michał Gavenciak – winner of the Slovakian Open 9-ball, were expected with interest. They played main „cards” in tournament. Klasović after good match wins 7:1 with Foldes, and at the result of 6:5 to R. Babica the match was given up by S. Tot. M. Śniegocki put out I. Putnik 7:6 and G. Mladenović 7:3, and in the semi-final after dramatic pursuit 9:8 won with Roman Sudić. Another one of leading Serbs, Zoran Svilar, lost 6:9 with Klasović. It should be told, that Andreja, who day by day plays in Germany, showed good and efficient billiard in Split. In all of the matches he was strong concentrated and with no mercy took advantage of his competitors.
In the summary of the competitions we can tell, that many of the participants showed a little „holidays” play level. But, of course, it is a middle of summer. Many of players joined participation in tournament with their holidays at the Adriatic See. After a hard half of the year they should take a rest.
