Gavenciak – slow but effective
The winner of fourth tournament of the series Dynamic Billard Best of the East 2006 – Slovakia Open became a player from Karlove Vary – Michal Gavenciak (
). The tournament took place in Komarno and 73 players from 6 countries participed. Gavenciak, who was Czech Rep. Champion many times, played very effectively, but very slowly. Even the simplest shot was made after a long time of consideration. A group of players made a motion – for future reference, to implement a time limit (shot -lock).
Slovakia open took place for the 8th time. This time players not only played in club Golden West, but in two different ones as well. They were both very attractive and newly opened. Club „Saturnus”- specious , „Cactus Club” – there’s still the smell of fresh paint in the air, very nice one.
During the first part of the tournament participants played in groups, on 14 tables. We should point out that 9 women played, but only one of them – Ewa Grzyb (
) got to the single elimination, when after very even game she lost with H. Lopotko (
) 5:7. In the most interesting matches, the winner of Ukraine Open Melkonian Babken (
) lost 3:7 with Dawid Zelman (
), while the best Slovakian player J. Polach lost 5:7 with M. Gavenciak. The first 2006 rank list leader W. Trajdos (
) – a winner of Polish Open – must have come to terms with defeat 3:7 with R. Zachar (
).
In 1/16 of the final we said goodbye to R. Babica (
) who lost with M. Gavenciak. That was positive news for his main rivals: T. Kaplan and H. Lopotko, but they weren’t cheerful much longer – they were both defeated in next round and gained a few more points.
In 1/4 of the final:
M. Gavenciak (
) – Georgely Pieler (
) – 7:3
K. Skowerski (
) – H. Łopotko (
) – 7:3
T. Kapłan (
) – I. Raki (
) – 6:7
M. Roter (
) – S. Tot (
) 7:5
Very exciting seemed to be the last match. Tot, former European Champion and leader of European rank list Euro Tour, a few years ago on the same tables in Komarno won with Roter 9:8. This time it started in the same way. Roter led 6:3, when Tot woke up from the come soon the result was 6:5, but Roter didn’t loose his temper and finished the game as quickly as he could and won 7:5.
In semi-finals K. Skowerski – defending champion of Slovakia Open, lost with M. Gavenciak 4:9 and M. Roter won with I. Raki 9:4.
In the final game M. Gavenciak was like a „sleeping pill” for M. Roter. Pole lost 2:9.
Before the final stage of the series Dynamic Billard Best of the East 2006 Radoslaw Babica (
) is still the leader, but there are 4 Poles who can be dangerous for him. Hungaria Open is going to many bring us very exciting results.
Traditionally we would like to thank our sponsors: Dynamic Billard (
), Aramith and Iwan Simonis (
). The host of the tournament was L. Sramek – a president of Slovakian Billiard Federation. The main organizer of the series sanctioned by EPBF is Mak Marketing (
).
