Gavenciak for the third time in Slovakia Open Gavenciak
presented the highest quality of the play during Dynamic Billiard – Best of the East, he always occurs to be the best one when he plays on his „playground” – in Slovakia. The player from Karlove Vary has become the champion again – for the third time – in Komarno.
He defeated Hubert Lopotko
9:2 in the final game. Sandor Tot
and Michal Lichodziejewski
were placed on the third position.
This year we gathered players from Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Czech Rep. It is a pitty we couldn`t meet in a bigger group, as we used to do. Players from Romania, Bulgaria and a few more players from Hungary couldn`t join us. Even the hosts were represented by 21 players. It didn`t affect the competitive atmosphere, knowing there were 2 tournaments left till the end of the series.
The leader of the rank list – Artiom Koshevoy
was defeated twice straight away, the second – Mateusz Sniegocki finished on the 9th position. That provided a great opportunity to Mariusz Skoneczny, Hubert Lopotko and Karol Skowerski. Lopotko who hadn`t succeed last time in Ukraine, took his chances and gotto the final game. Skowerski lost with Lichodziejewski in quarter finals, but managed to gain some points, though. Skoneczny was not able to beat Lopotko. The situation was getting more and more interesting. Potentially there were 5 people to become the champion.
The best games in Komarno were played by Vilmos Foeldes
– bronze medalist of World Championships with Sandor Tot – the former silver medalist of European Championships. Sandor won the game after a desperate battle. The last game was terrifying as both of the players made huge mistakes. Not less emotions provided Skowerski (the winner of tournaments in Poland, Ukraine and Slovakia) and Jaroslaw Polach (the winner of tournaments in Slovakia). The audience was really sad to see their idol going off the beaten track straight to the group of defeated players. So it happened, as he lost 5:7. It needs to be said that Jaroslaw was not in his top shape at this time – he had bad knee injury, what could definitely affect his play performance.
This is how the rank list is shaping up before the last tournament of the series: Mateusz Sniegocki 315 pts, H. Lopotko, D. Zajac – 305 pts, K. Skowerski – 300 pts, M. Skoneczny, A. Koshevoy – 295 pts.
The head referee of the tournament was Marek Marcinkowski.
The award ceremony was lead by the director of the tournament – Marcin Krzeminski and the president of Slovakian Billiard Federation – Ladislav Sramek.
